Weekly Fishing Report - Lakes Entrance

Lakes Entrance Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Kingfish are biting from the Footbridge down to the Black Swan Motel. Best baits are pilchard, blue bait and mullet. The town jetties for Trevally and Mackerel, taking pilchard. The surf beach for Salmon on lures. Offshore at the pipeline for Pinkies and Flathead, Gummies close to the beach with pilchard and squid as best bait.

Lake Tyers: Plenty of Bream in the main lake and at the Glasshouse, taking prawn and pilchard. Flathead are around the Waterwheel Tavern area, also taking prawn and pilchard.

Mitchell River: The Barrier, Grassy Banks and into the river mouth for Bream. Best baits are spider crab, shrimp and prawn. The Highway Bridge and Butter Factory are the best spots for Garfish and Mullet, on worm.

Tambo River: The snags at the river mouth are best for Bream, bait of choice being prawn and worm. Also try The Three Gums and the Rough Road.

Nicholson: From the boat ramp up to the two bridges for Bream, also try the river mouth using local prawn with a float. Some Tailor may be about, trolling with small metal lures.

Metung: The hotel jetty for Bream, still taking lures as bait. Flathead in the shallows around Shaving Point, either from a boat or wade out to just before the weed. Best results using lures.

Paynesville: At the mouth of the Mitchell for Garfish taking worm. Town jetties for Bream with bread as preferred bait. Surf beaches for Gummy Shark on pilchard and squid.

Hollands Landing: Bream are to be found in Lake Wellington and at Holland’s Landing, with the best results using prawn. At the surf beach they are catching Bream and the odd Gummy.

Marlo: Bream are about in the river and lake, taking live prawn. Luderick around the groynes on worm. The surf for Salmon with pilchard the preferred bait. Offshore for Gummies, Flathead and Pinkies, taking pilchard and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: Duck Splash, Peach Tree Creek for Bream taking crab and worm. Some Flathead are cruising the shallows chasing prawn. . The surf has Salmon on blue bait and poppers.

Bemm River: The entrance is still closed but Salmon are off the beach, taking pilchard, poppers and blue bait. The lake is producing Bream, taking hard bodied lures. Tailor are in the channel, trolling with lures.

Mallacoota: Offshore for Flathead and a large Saw Fish at 568kg was caught using squid. The surf beach for Salmon on blue bait. Luderick at Harrison Channel on weed. The Main Lake on the incoming tide for Trevally. The Top Lake has Bream and Flathead chasing lures.

Omeo High Country: Victoria Falls, Cobungra and Bundara are the places to try for Trout. Spinning for best results using celta and wobblers. Also try insect fly patterns.
