Lakes Entrance Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Surf beaches for Salmon and Yellow Eyed Mullet taking pilchard and lures. Town jetties for Trevally and Mullet on white bait. Bullock Island and up to Nungurner for Salmon taking lures and plastics. Offshore at pipeline for Mako Shark, 9kg Snapper, “Gummies” and Flathead taking pilchards and squid.

Lake Tyers: Is alive with Bream, Flathead and Tailor throughout the lake system. Early morning in shallow water and mid- afternoon, fish are in deep water areas. Best results using prawn, lures and pilchard. Surf for Yellow Eyed Mullet and Salmon as well.

Mitchell River: Backwater for Bream as well as “the cut”. Best bait is spider crab and prawn. The highway bridge for Garfish on worm. Tailor are out and about cruising up and down the river chasing lures.

Tambo River: Howard Flats, Punthouse Point boat ramp are best spots for Bream, with worm and prawn as preferred bait. Tailor are cruising up and down the river.

Nicholson: Between the two bridges are good spots for Bream. Also try up at the “strait six” for Bream, best baits being worm and prawn.

Metung: Fishing is a bit patchy at the moment with seals cruising about, but give the boardwalk and town jetties a go. There are Sea Horses a plenty to be seen. For Salmon, try from Nungurner down towards Reeve Channel and The Narrows.

Paynesville: Town jetties for Bream, also try McMillan Straits and heading into Newlands Arm. Tailor in the two lakes, trolling for the best results. Surf for Salmon taking pilchards and poppers.

Hollands Landing: The woodpile and Hollands Landing are good spots for Bream. Jones Bay and towards Storm Point also worth a look. For Salmon, trolling with lures for best results. Pelican Bay for Bream and Mullet.

Marlo: Surf for Salmon and Tailor on pilchard, lures and poppers. The Snowy and Brodribb are best spots for Bream. Luderick are around the rock groynes and structures with worm as preferred bait. Lake system also has Bream but may be a bit patchy.

Tamboon Inlet: Furnell Landing for Bream, Flathead and Perch taking prawn and shrimp. The Flathead will be cruising the shallows taking prawn and plastics. Surf for Salmon on pilchard and poppers.

Bemm River: The Entrance is still closed but still has Salmon on the beach taking pilchard and poppers. Bream are cruising the edges with hard body lures and prawn as preferred bait. Trolling in the channel with lures will get you Tailor.

Mallacoota: Surf for Salmon on pilchard and poppers. Yellow Fin Whiting are still at Goodwin Sands with yabbies as bait of choice. Luderick are at Harrison Channel on weed. Bream are in the Top Lake chasing prawn and lures.

Omeo High Country: At the moment the Cobungra, Gibbo and Mitta Mita rivers are providing abundant opportunities for trout. Fly fishing with the right flies. Check insect activity on the water and also try lures for best results.
