Lakes Entrance Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Salmon are a plenty. Bullock Island at the moment is the best spot using silver lures. The surf beaches also have Salmon and Tailor with lures, pilchards and poppers. Town jetties are producing Trevally, Tailor and Salmon taking whitebait. There is still Kingfish about. Offshore for Pinkies and Flathead. “Gummies” closer to the beach on squid and pilchard.

Lake Tyers: Bream are still about in the lake system but mainly in shallow water around the 1 metre mark. Best bait being prawn. Flathead are a bit quieter but prefer water depth around 3 metres taking prawn as preferred bait. There is some good Pinkies about taking prawn. Try surf for Salmon on lures, pilchard and poppers.

Mitchell River: FromShadoof Lodge down as far as “The Cut” and Foster Point for Bream taking spider crab, shrimp and prawn. The highway bridge and butter factory are the best spots for Perch using a shrimp patterned fly. Garfish and Mullet taking worm.

Tambo River: Bream are to be found at the Lucerne paddock and the power lines. Best results using worm and prawn.

Nicholson: Best spots to try are the pear tree and the swimming hole for Bream with the possibility of Mullet, Tailor and Garfish. Best bait being worm under a float.

Metung: Fishing may be patchy as seals have been spotted, but from Box’s Creek and toward Bowran Point for flathead on pippi.

Paynesville: Bream are a bit quiet but try town jetties. Tailor are to be found in Lake King and Lake Victoria trolling with metal lures for best results. Steamer Landing and Ocean Grange are best for Salmon with pilchard and popper.

Hollands Landing: Seacombe Landing for boat and land based fishing for Bream, Mullet, Tailor and Carp. The woodpile, Tom’s Creek and Jones Bay are also worth a look with spider crab, white bait and prawn for best results.

Marlo: Bream are a bit quiet at the moment. Plenty of Luderick taking sand worm. Surf has Salmon taking pilchard as preferred bait. Offshore is a bit rough at the moment.

Tamboon Inlet: Pelican Point and Old Man Point in the shallows for Flathead on prawn. Furnell Landing and the campsite for Bream on crab and worm. Surf for Salmon on popper and pilchard.

Bemm River: Surf for Salmon on poppers, pilchard and bluebait. Bream are in the lake still chasing live prawn. Try Luderick Point and Siberia for Flathead in the shallows with live prawn. Trolling in the channel for Tailor smacking lures.

Mallacoota: Rough weather offshore, but still taking Flathead. Top Lake for Bream and Flathead on prawn and soft plastics. Luderick in Harrisons Channel, Slipways and Fisheries jetty on weed. Trevally on incoming tide. Yellow Fin Whiting are about Goodwin Sands on worm. Surf for Salmon on pilchards and popper, also try metal lures.

Omeo High Country: The Livingstone Creek, Mitta Mitta and Anglers Rest are best for Trout. With the rain, worm may be best bait. Also wobblers, but check if water is clear or murky first, then choose either silver or gold.
