Gippsland Lakes Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Hopetoun Channel has Wrasse taking pilchard. The rock wall for Trevally and Tailor, biting on prawn and lures. Luderick are around the town jetties taking local weed. Surf for Salmon. Offshore at six mile reef, Pinkies and Murwong are being taken on squid and pilchard.

Lake Tyers: With fresh water entering the lake system, fish are moving about. Black Fellow’s Arm has some Tailor taking silver lures. Again look for Cormorant activity for best results. Cameron Arm for Bream on hard body lures and vibes. Surf for Salmon, on poppers and pilchard.

Mitchell River: Fresh water has pushed fish down to “The Cut”, Jones Bay and Mitchell River mouth. Bream are taking spider crab, cut crab and “zedman” plastic grub.

Tambo River: Best spot for Bream is “Three Quartz” on the way down towards the mouth, taking prawn and sandworm. Plenty of fresh water is coming down the river.

Nicholson: River mouth and up to the Little Cliffs are the best spots for Bream, with preferred bait being prawn and worm. Plenty of fresh water coming down. Don’t forget the Twin River’s Bream Classic is on this weekend.

Metung: Plenty of Seals and Dolphins are about, but from Lake King jetty and heading towards Lake King and Tambo Bay for Bream, best bait being prawn and worm.

Paynesville: Mullet are in “The Straits”, taking worm. Raymond Island Ferry jetty and surrounds have Bream, striking on vibes. Surf at Ocean Grange for Salmon and Tailor. Best bait being poppers and pilchard.

Hollands Landing: Lake Wellington and the “The Straits” for Bream, Flathead and Mullet. Best bait being fresh worm. Fishing from a boat for best results.

Marlo: River levels are high, but try French’s Narrow beach for Salmon and Tailor on poppers and pilchard. Offshore, “Gummies” Salmon and Tailor are biting on pilchard, blue bait and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: Peach Tree Creek camp site and Fisherman’s Landing have Bream, Mullet and Tailor. Best bait being prawn and worm. Salmon and Tailor are being taken from the surf on pilchard and poppers. Also give silver lures a try.

Bemm River: The entrance is still open. Rivers are high and so is the lake. Bream are taking prawn and worm as preferred bit.

Mallacoota: Plenty of fresh water coming down into the lake system, forcing Bream into the Bottom Lake. Best results using peeled prawn. Luderick are out and about the new boat ramp, taking peeled prawn. Surf is a bit rough, but some Salmon are about.

Omeo High Country: It is now a “closed season” until 1st Saturday in September, 2015.
