Weekly Fishing Report, July 9

Gippsland Lakes Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Town jetties have Mullet and Trevally taking worm and blue bait. Post Office jetty is producing Luderick and Salmon. Best bait is local weed and prawn. Wrasse are being caught from Bullock Island and along the rock wall on prawn. Offshore, Pinkies and Murwong are being taken on squid and pilchard along the six mile reef.

Lake Tyers: Bream have been active round the islands, best results using prawn and vibes. Tailor are cruising around Mill Point, best results with silver lures. Look for Cormorant activity on the water for bait fish, Tailor will be close at hand. Surf for Salmon on popper and pilchard.

Mitchell River: The Barrier, Grassy Banks, Eagle Point and The Cut have Bream. Best results using prawn and cut crab. The highway bridge and old butter factory for Bream and Perch. Best results on vibes and soft plastics.

Tambo River: Sardine Flats, Clues Bluff and heading down the river mouth and the “snag’s” area for Bream, Mullet and Tailor. Best baits are pilchard and prawn.

Nicholson: The Knox Fishing Club came down for a comp. Plenty of good Bream were landed from the highway bridge and up to the Strait Six. Bait of choice being prawn.

Metung: Boardwalk and town jetties for Bream. For boaties, try the rock wall and Bancroft Bay for Bream, Trevally and Mullet on worm, prawn and spider crab. Try trolling with lures for the “odd” Tailor.

Paynesville: Town jetties are producing Trevally and Mullet. Also try the slipways. Preferred bait being sandworm. Bream are in the area around the Raymond Island Ferry and relative jetties. Bait of choice being vibes.

Hollands Landing: Bream and Flathead are being caught at the “wood pile” boat ramp. Best results are on sandworm. Also give Blond Bay a try.

Marlo: In the estuaries for Bream, Mullet and Luderick on worm and prawn. Surf beaches for Salmon and Tailor on pilchard and poppers. Offshore, Flathead, “Gummies”, Murwong and Pinkies are being taken on pilchard, blue bait and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: Luderick are around the rock groynes. Try the river mouth for Luderick, Tailor, Whiting and Bream. Best bait being prawn and worm.

Bemm River: Plenty of good quality Bream in the lake, taking soft plastics, worm and local prawn. Some Luderick are up in the river, being taken on worm. The entrance is still open. Try the surf for Salmon.

Mallacoota: Salmon and Tailor on the surf beach also at the break water. Best results on pilchard and poppers, but give silver lures a try. Some small Luderick are about. Top Lake has Bream biting on yabbies. Double Creek Arm has Flathead taking prawn. Fisheries Wharf for Trevally biting on prawn. The Genoa and Wallagaraugh Rivers are also producing Bream, taking yabbies.

Omeo High Country: It is now a “closed season” until 1st Saturday in September, 2015.
