Weekly Fishing Report - Lakes Entrance

Lakes Entrance Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: The footbridge has 3kg kingfish taking blue bait, pilchards and mullet. Opposite the Black Swan is also good for kingfish. The Post Office jetty has mullet on worm. Whiting are a bit packey at Fraser Island and Nungurner Jetty on worm. Offshore for snapper and flathead. Gummies are closer in to the beach. Best bait pilchard and squid. A full moon is coming so gummies will be active.

Lake Tyers: Flathead are plentiful in the whole lake system taking worm and prawn. Bream are around the shallow sections in the early evening on prawn and hard bodied lures. Tailor are in the lake preferring still conditions at No 2 boat ramp taking lures. Some luderick are being taken on prawn.

Mitchell River: Eagle Point, the cut and two bells are producing bream with spider crab, shrimp and prawn as bait of choice. The Butter Factory has garfish taking worm.

Tambo River: From rough road, Marshall’s Flat and down to the river mouth are the best spots for bream. Bait of choice being shrimp, prawn and soft shell.

Nicholson: From the reeds, the car bodies and the cliffs are best for bream at the moment on local prawn. Try drifting bait either with or without a float.

Metung: Bream are being caught at the Hotel jetty on black and gold lures. Flathead are to be found in the shallows around Box’s Creek and Bowran Point. Best bait fresh prawn.

Paynesville: Try the town jetties, the straits and Lady Bay for bream and flathead. Best bait being mullet and fresh white bait. The Banksia Peninsula and Duck Arm trolling for salmon and tailor using metal lures.

Hollands Landing: Bream are plentiful at Jones Bay, Luff Point, the bream hole, the Marina and Pelican Bay. Best bait being live prawn.

Marlo: Bream are in the rivers and estuary but can be a bit finicky. Best results using live prawn. Good size luderick are around the rock groynes and structures taking worm. Prawns are still around. The surf for salmon on pilchards and poppers. You may be able to get offshore for gummies, flathead and king fish on pilchard and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: Furnell Landing and to the river mouth for bream on crab and worm. Some flathead in the shallows taking prawn. Still plenty of prawns to be had. The surf for salmon in the early morning. For best results try popper and blues.

Bemm River: The entrance is still closed but the surf has salmon and trevally on blue bait, pilchard and poppers. Bream are in the lake taking frozen prawn, the channel for flathead and tailor taking soft plastics.

Mallacoota: Salmon in the surf on pilchards and poppers. The Top Lake for bream and flathead chasing lures. Luderick at the slipway on weed. Trevally on the incoming tide taking pilchard. Whiting are about on yabbies mainly in the shallow water areas.

Omeo High Country: The Cobungra, Anglers Rest and the Mitta Mitta are the best spots for trout using spinning lures, hopper. Try dry fly patterns, watch what insects are about.
