Gippsland Lakes Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Town jetties have Whiting taking prawn. Highway bridge for Luderick on weed. Bullock Island has Trevally taking peeled prawn. Birds are working the water, so Tailor are out and about. The surf is a bit rough, but Salmon are about. Offshore, Pinkies, Leather Jacket, Morwong are biting, best bait being pilchard and squid.

Lake Tyers: Blackfellow’s Arm up to the power lines and towards Trident Arm for Bream and Flathead. Best bait being prawn. Try shallow areas around Mud Island for Flathead. Surf beach for Salmon if you are brave enough to brave the weather.

Mitchell River: Glassy Banks towards Eagle Point and down to the river mouth for 40cm Bream. Their bait of choice is spider crab and local prawn.

Tambo River: From river mouth and up towards Rough Road for Bream, biting on prawn. Still a lot of fresh water coming down.

Nicholson: The swimming hole and down to the river mouth is the best spot to try for Bream, taking local prawn.

Metung: Local prawn and pippi are best bait for Bream and Flathead. Try the town jetties and boardwalk, also from Shaving Point to Lake King jetty.

Paynesville: The King Street boat ramp for Bream taking Mussels. Flathead are out and about in the back lake taking prawn.

Hollands Landing: From Bull Point, Tom’s Creek and down toward Luff Point for Bream. Try prawn and burly as well. Some Flathead and Mullet are about.

Marlo: Bream, Luderick and Estuary Perch are to be found at Corringle Lake, Brodribb River and Bream Point. Best bait being crab, prawn and worm. Surf beaches for Salmon and Tailor, taking poppers, pilchard and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: The camp site and down to “the rocks” for Flathead on prawn. Fishermen are landing Bream, Mullet and Tailor; on opposite bank from the boat ramp, best bait prawn and worm.

Bemm River: Try Pelican Point for Bream and Estuary Perch. Best bait being local prawn. Surf beach has Salmon and Tailor, taking poppers and pilchards.

Mallacoota: Beach for Salmon, taking poppers and pilchards, also try silver spinners. Some Luderick are at the jetties taking weed. Some Trevally are chasing lures. The Narrow’s for Bream and Flathead, feasting on live poddy mullet and prawn. Top Lake also for Bream chasing prawn.

Omeo High Country: The rivers are producing some nice Rainbow Trout, taking worm as preferred bait. The Gibb River is about the best spot. Good luck!
